  • Through this form, information is collected SECURELY. Upon receiving the information, our accountant will set up your CRA accounts and will provide your account numbers in email. For assistance, please read the right side guidelines.

  • What should I write in business activity?
    You may write major one or two activities. If you add more activities later, that is fine. This information will be updated every year when you do your annual returns.
  • Why do we need notice of assessment?
    Notice of assessment show the current address and name in the CRA records which is required for GST/HST/PST registrations.
  • Why do I need to upload an ID?
    An ID is required to register for PST number

  • Information of any one of the director is sufficient. If you have multiple directors, choose the one who is Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • Note: Address (exactly as it appears in your CRA records or notice of assessment).

  • Postal code is very IMPORTANT and can't be incorrect. Incorrect postal code will block your CRA profile. Therefore, please provide the one that match your personal profile with CRA accounts. You may confirm it from your most recent notice of assessment. If you have moved recently and feel, your previous postal code could be with CRA profile, then also provide that bellow.

  • Why need SIN number?
    Your CRA profile is connected with your SIN number. Your business is connected with you. Therefore, to register any CRA accounts, SIN number is mandatory. We treat your SIN number with strict confidentially and in compliance with the privacy act.
  • Important notes on postal code
    To register CRA accounts, we will provide these information to CRA. If these information match only then CRA allows to register. If postal code is wrong, after 3 trials, CRA lock your file and they need further authentication with you to unlock the profile. Therefore, it's very important that you provide the correct postal that is associated with your CRA profile. If you doubt that it could be different postal code in CRA profile, please write also alternative postal codes that you think could be with CRA.

  • Instructions to Answer the Questions

  • Because this is the initial year for this business, you may not know the answers exactly. In this case, make the best guess and put an answer. After all, this information is used only for initial registration and will be updated accordingly in your next annual returns. Therefore, feel free to answer on your best guess.
  • GST/HST Account Info

  • Normally the fiscal year end is December 31 for most companies. If you want a different one, please select the month and enter the date.

  • Which period should I choose?
    Most people choose annually. As long as your revenue $0 to $1,5000,000 you can choose annually. If revenue is between $1,5000,000 to $6,000,000 can be quarterly. If revenue higher than $6,000,000, must be monthly.
  • What to put for annual sales?
    Because this is your first year, you may not know the exact amount. But this is for initial set up only, you may give at your best guess.
  • What should I choose Fiscal Year-End Date?
    Most people choose 31st December. The year will be the current year. You can choose any date as you want.

  • Can I modify this info later?
    Yes, definitely can. This is just an initial set up, these answers will be updated at the end of the year when you do your annual returns.
  • Should I take salary or dividend?
    This is the biggest question. There are advantages and disadvantages for either of this choice. Most people make balance between these two. They take some amount in salary and some amount in dividends. For just initial set up, you can make a choice and you can always change this answer when you make a firm decision after consulting with an accountant. If you need accounting advice, you may consult any accounting firm or our on-site chartered accountant by additional fees of $99.
  • How much salary should I pay myself?
    Well, this is a question of your accounting plan. Setting up a higher salary has some disadvantages and advantages too. For initial account set up, you may choose any amount as of best guess. You can change this information any time when you consult your accountant. If you need accounting advice, you may consult any accounting firm or our onsite chartered accountant by additional fees of $99.
  • I'm not sure, I will hire an employee or not
    If you are uncertain, that's fine. Just answer as of your current situation. As of now are you planning to have an employee other than yourself? You can always update this answer with CRA.
  • Export / Import Account Info

  • What is considered export or import?
    Export or import applies to any PHYSICAL products or items that will cross the border of Canada; either will come from outside to Canada or will go from Canada to outside. SERVICE is NOT included in export or import. If you are in Canada and taking service over the phone or internet from overseas, that's not an import.
  • Why do I need to provide this information?
    Well, if you do any import or export of goods or items, it will cross the border of Canada and you are going need customs clearance. Declaring it with CRA is the first step of this process.
  • What to put as value of exports?
    If you don't know exactly, then put the value at your best guess. This information is to create an account only. It can be changed later when you are very sure of the amount.
